今年初黑人平權運動迄今，各行各業都開始檢討黑人不公的情況，並盡力改善，尤其是常起用白人模特兒的時裝界。時尚雜誌《Vogue》在剛剛的8月份便找來美國著名的黑人體操運動員 Simone Biles 當封面人物，本以為能夠改善以白人為主導的問題，沒想到這個做法仍然不受網民支持，還惹來謾罵。
這次《Vogue》找來 Simone Biles 當封面人物，由著名白人女攝影師 Annie Leibovitz 操刀，但網民認為攝影師 Annie 卻不能為黑人拍出好的照片，這輯照片更在 Twitter 和 Instagram 上備受批評，網民表示 Annie Leibovitz 不懂得為黑人打燈，令 Simone 在照片裡變得暗淡無光，而且原本的內容十分正面，但照片風格卻令 Simone Biles 看起來很悲慘。網民還認為應該聘用黑人攝影師，因為他們會比較知道如何為黑人打燈。

Here is Simone Biles from an issue of Vogue and Viola Davis from Vanity Fair. Notice a difference? One woman shines, the other fades. The difference here is knowing how to photograph black bodies. 然而，有支持者則表示這輯照片可以呈現出攝影師的獨特風格，有別於傳統刻意為黑人「打亮」的照片，而且讀者喜不喜歡照片是很主觀的事，這樣並不代表攝影師不清楚黑人膚色特質，也絕對不是不專業的表現，反而更呈現到專題的內容，而網民也強調這樣並不代表雜誌不該聘請黑人攝影師。

Lots of people trashing Leibowitz's photoshere, but I love the two that are shown on HuffPo. They have a very painterly quality to them. That said, though A.L. has been a Vogue portrait photographer for quite a while and is a legend, perhaps it is past time to also contract
